President Dr. Andy C. Lewter's Story

Dr. Andy C. Lewter, Jr. became the President of New Millennium Development Services, Inc. after the passing of his father Dr. Andy C. Lewter, Sr. in 2019 who served in this capacity since 1997. They both have been committed to helping the community through economic development and the creation of affordable housing. The father has passed on the legacy of improving the lives of people during his almost 50 years as pastor at Hollywood Baptist Church, Amityville, NY. He was a maverick in community development by building one of the first Long Island, NY Adult Homes for Patients from Pilgrim State Psychiatric Hospital. These persons needed a safe home environment that provided them with quality of life.

Executive Director Tonya Lewter-Gordon's Story

Tonya Lewter-Gordon, Founding Executive Director of New Millennium Development Services, Inc. (501(c)3 Nonprofit Organization) since its inception on December 8, 1997.

She has speared-headed the company’s two-fold mission statement of economic development and the building of affordable housing. Ms. Lewter-Gordon was motivated and inspired to give-back to the community in these areas after becoming a member of a church in Bronx, NY. This congregation’s membership of over two thousand only had 2 families that were homeowners. Also, she became aware that entrepreneurship was almost non-existent among this large community.

Executive Director Tonya Lewter-Gordon's Story

Tonya immediately realized that the challenges of economic development and affordable homeownership had to be addressed. The need for resources that provided business-ownership tools and contract opportunities needed to be offered . She faced several challenges when initially producing this event formally named Long Island Community & Economic Development Conference because these events were primarily facilitated by government agencies. Initially there was great resistance from participants and no financial resources. Also, on October 29, 2012, Superstorm Sandy devastated NYS & NJ Coastal Communities and caused widespread power outages. The storm and its aftermath were blamed for at least 182 deaths in the U.S., and lives across the Tri-State area were forever changed. In spite of these occurrences New Millennium’s initial event was successfully held in 2013 with over 500 attendees.

Every year thereafter the event grew tremendously with well over 1,000 attendees and 100 exhibitors.
